The 2017 All-Star Awards take place tonight in Dublin, and Waterford’s star forward Austin Gleeson will be in attendance. The Mount Sion man was nominated once again this year, after bagging the simultaneous titles of Hurler of the Year and Young Player of the Year at the 2016 event. An honour he found difficult to handle.
After an exceptional season of hurling, Austin and the Waterford team suffered a loss to Galway in this year’s epic All-Ireland senior hurling final. However, his skill is still recognised as one of the best in the country for 2017.
Since September Austin has been back working, training and looking forward to getting back on the pitch with his Deise teammates. We caught up with him ahead of tonight’s event to talk sport, style and what his one guilty pleasure is.
