It won’t be long now until the Hurling Championship is upon us in the summer time. You can almost guarantee that Littlewoods Ireland ambassador Austin Gleeson and his  Waterford team mates will be back this year with vengeance after losing out to Galway in the All Ireland Final last August.

We caught up with Austin at the launch of the of the GAA Go Games in Croke Park to find out if he has any pre match rituals that he follows in the run up to games

Is there any specific routine that you follow on match day?

I always sit on the same seat on the bus, and I always sit on the same seat in the dressing room.  Always listen to the same music. I am the DJ on match day, on the bus! Though I do get a few question marks sometimes…

Do you eat the same food?

Yes, our food is always ready for us before games, so it’s very handy now.

What gets you psyched up on match day?

The music – sure I am the DJ!

Do you have any stretching or foam rolling before you head off?

Yes, we have an activation session with our gym instructor. So he is always with us, and we just do that in the hotel.

Do you team as a group do anything beforehand?

Just relax really and get ready!

Would you be superstitious if you didn’t do any of these things?

Oh yeah – I would be very superstitious about a few things, but especially before games.
