Here’s What’s Happening This Bank Holiday Weekend

Here’s what’s coming up this June Bank Holiday weekend!

As Pat Shortt once said “Ireland would be a great little country, if only you could put a roof over it!”  And he’s not wrong.  While temperatures have been in the late teens, early 20s over the last few days, we can expect to see some scattered showers over the June Bank Holiday weekend.  But a little rain never stopped any of us, and we will have sunny spells, and you know what?  That’s good enough for us!

Here are some of the festivities happening around the country this bank holiday weekend that you can enjoy, sunny spells or scattered showers!

During the sunny spells…

Bandon Music Festival, Co Cork, 1st – 3rd June

Check out some of our greatest up-and-coming, home-grown talent at the Bandon Music Festival.  Acts include The Academic, Ryan Sheridan, and Ronan Nolan to name but a few.  Tickets are €15 – €30, while under 14s get in for free when accompanied by an adult.

Cork Harbour Festival, 2nd to the 6th June

The Cork Harbour Festival celebrates Cork’s maritime history, with over 70 events in the city, harbour towns and villages.  However the piece-du-resistance comes in the form of An Rás Mór, Ireland’s own long-distance rowing course, attracting hundreds of participants annually.

Bloom In The Park, Phoenix Park, Dublin City, 31st May – 4th June

The Bloom is back!  The annual show-garden extravaganza is back this June Bank Holiday in the Phoenix Park, in Dublin.  Expect a feast for the eyes, delicious artisan food, craft stalls, and play zones for the little ones.  Tickets are from €16 – €25.

Forbidden Fruit Festival, Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin, 2nd – 4th June

Forbidden Fruit Festival is back for its 8th year running, and the line-up seems to be going from strength to strength.  This year, you can expect to see amazing acts such as Justice, The War On Drugs, Richie Hawtin, Glass Animals, and a DJ set by Idris Elba himself!  It’s not to be missed.  Two day/ one day tickets available on Ticketmaster.ie.

Cowboys and Heros, Co Leitrim, 1st – 4th June

Celebrating the very best in Irish country music, Cowboys and Heros runs from the 1st to the 4th of June in Drumcoura City, Ballinamore, Co Leitrim.  Headline acts include Mike Denver, Lisa McHugh, and Jimmy Buckley.

While there’s scattered showers…

Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, Kilkenny City, 31st May – 4th June

If you’re looking for a good laugh this June Bank Holiday weekend, then look no further than the annual Kilkenny Cat Laughs festival.  This year has a stellar line up of comedy gold in the form of David O’Doherty, Alison Spittle, Neil Delemare, Blindboy and Maeve Higgins to name a few.

A Spoonful of Sherman: The Songbook of Your Childhood, Pavillion Theather, Dún Laoigharie, 2nd and 3rd June

Indulge your inner child with this nostalgia-filled musical in the Pavillion Theater, with performances of all of your favourite musicals such as Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Jungle Book and The Aristocats.  Tickets are priced at €20 – €22.

Howth Trad Fest, Co Dublin, 1st – 4th June

Experience the very best in Irish trad music across nine venues in Howth.  Headline acts include the wonderful Kila, and Chris Kavanagh.  And the best part?  Most of the events are free!
