How to Care for Your Shellac Manicure

Keep your shellac manicure in tip-top shape with these simple tips!

Getting your nails done can be such a treat.  Whether you’re an avid fan of a shellac manicure, gel nails or acrylic, there’s a treatment and style to suit everyone.  While we love nothing more than getting our nails done, the treatments shouldn’t start and end at the salon.  There are simple things you can do to take care of your nails so that they stay perfectly strong and healthy.  Here are four tips to keep your nails in their best condition, which will also keep your manicure in tip-top shape!

Reach for the Moisturiser

Keeping your nails moisturised is key to maintaining your manicure.  Pick up a nail/cuticle oil to use a few times a week – it’s like superfood for your nails.  Simply massage the oil into your nails and cuticles a couple of times a week and vóila!  Healthy, strong nails in no time.  One of our all-time favourite cuticle oils is the Nails Inc Superfood Repair Oil, a miracle worker!

Top Up With SPF

Because of the UV lights used for shellac/gel, if you get your nails done a lot it’s a good idea to use a bit of SPF to protect your hands from the UV lights over time.

If you’re jetting off on holidays, some oils in certain SPF can break down your shellac a lot quicker.  So, if you’re spending time in the sun and using a lot of SPF just make sure to give your nails a quick wipe.  They’ll thank you for it!

Resist the Urge

If the polish on your nails starts to lift, resist the urge to pick or peel the nail polish off.  Peeling off a shellac manicure or false nails can do serious damage to your own nails.  Keep your nails moisturised so the polish won’t lift and peel easily.  If the polish does start to lift, book your nail appointment straight away.  It’s worth it even if it’s just the fix that one nail.

Stay Away From Cleaning Products

If the time has come to give your home a good spring clean, wear gloves when you’re cleaning with any kind of disinfectant sprays or bleach.  Any harsh chemicals can weaken and damage your nails.
