What Does International Women’s Day Mean to You? – Meet Katie

International Women’s Day is this Friday, the 08th of March!

In the run-up to International Women’s Day, we asked some of our employees what exactly this day means to them and what it is that inspires them.

Meet Katie, who works in the  Marketing department in our Dublin office!

What did you want to be when you grew up?

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to work in fashion. I come from a middle-of-nowhere town in Texas, and the glossy magazines like Vogue, Elle and Harpers Bazaar always seemed like a world away from me. But, from a young age, my Mom tells me I used to insist on having at least three outfits to choose from for school, and the first Christmas present I remember is a pair of red, patent leather mary-jane shoes that I got from Santa when I was three. So there was never really any other career for me!

What is the best moment of your career so far?

I was lucky enough to be able to work on The Pippa Edit that we launched last season with Pippa O’Connor. She is such an inspirational person, and having the opportunity to work with her was an absolute pleasure. I learned so much about styling, photography, and production. It was definitely an experience I’ll never forget!

What women inspire you?

I am so inspired by Emily Weiss who began as a blogger but launched the brand Glossier which is disrupting the beauty industry in a big way. She’s got such an instinct for brand building and a true understanding of how to make women feel beautiful.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

International Women’s Day represents an opportunity to reflect on how far women’s rights have come and also recognise how far we still have to go. There are so many women who have come before me that paved the way for me to have the opportunities that I have, and it’s so necessary to take a day to recognise them.

What’s your favourite empowering quote?

Lately, I’ve been trying to keep this quote in mind “If you’re not making mistakes, then you’re not making decisions.” -Catherine Cook. I’m very much a perfectionist and have a tendency to want to play things safe, but if you don’t allow yourself to try new things and possibly fail then you’ll never give yourself the chance to make those big discoveries.

Be sure to check back in on a daily basis in the run-up to International Women’s Day as we will be sharing another fabulous Littlewoods Ireland employee each day!
