There’s been a lot of talk about Conor McGregor’s possible foray into movies but another Irish MMA star has beaten him to it.
According to RTÉ, Cathal Pendred has landed a “major role” in the new Hollywood remake of Baywatch and will star opposite Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Zac Efron and Kelly Rohrbach in the movie.
Filming has already begun on the big screen adaptation of the hit TV series, which featured Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff, with a release date set for May 2017.
Dwayne Johnson will take over the role of Mitch Buchanan, made famous by Hasselhoff, and recently shared photos from the set – adding that he was “having a blast” filming the movie.
Pendred recently retired from UFC to pursue business interests, having invested in salad bar chain Chopped.
However, he hinted back in January that he had one eye on the movie business, telling 2FM’s Breakfast Republic that he saw action movies as a way to break into Hollywood.
“I’m also doing a bit of acting as well – it’s something I’ve always been interested in. I’ve done some small parts here and there but now that I have a bit of extra time and don’t have to focus everything on a fight I’m doing auditions.”
