As a member of the All-Ireland winning Limerick Senior Hurling team, Aaron Gillane has to keep his diet clean and nutritious.
We chatted to Aaron to find out what is on his plate when it comes to match day. From a hearty breakfast served up by his mum to a possible cheat meal at the end of the day, Aaron lets us in on what he eats to ensure he is ready for any challenge on this pitch!
My mother would have my breakfast ready. It would be three poached eggs and three rashers. Then Cian (Lynch) would come to collect me and my mother would have a cup of coffee made for both of us. She’s a gem!
Before the Game
We get to the hotel before the match and I would normally have some banana bread and peanut butter. I would have some pasta and chicken and then I would stay hydrated with loads of water as well and that would do me before we go onto the field!
I would maybe have a bit of energy gel and some Lucozade but nothing too filling anyway. I want to be free enough going onto the second half.
After the match, I think we are sick of eating! We always had an option of beef or salmon. Nothing too special, but I always go for the beef. It is supposed to be good for recovery as well so I wouldn’t be complaining about that. It would fill me!
In the evening, it depends how Cian (Lynch) is feeling because he is always the one driving. Sometimes he would stop off at McDonald’s on the way home, so I would go along too and I would have to get something seeing as I am there with him! We will blame Cian for my cheat meals!
