Playing Hurling and Camogie requires a lot of time, commitment and dedication. Players have to keep their fitness and nutrition on point while training so they are ready to come up against some of their toughest opponents on the field.
With countless hours of training being put into gym sessions, we wanted to know what exercises players love the most, and what ones they aren’t as keen on!
Eoin Murphy – Kilkenny
“I love doing box jumps in the gym! My least favourite exercise is definitely running!”
Jason Forde – Tipperary
“I don’t mind doing bench presses, but I hate doing any leg exercises. Especially Bulgarian squats!”

“My favourite would be a deadlift. My least favourite is a single leg squat or the dreaded stair master.”
Aaron Gillane – Limerick
“My favourite would be the bench press, it’s nice and handy. On the other hand, my least favourite is probably anything to do with legs. I would say I haven’t done a legs exercise in the past two years!”
Peter Duggan – Clare
“I love biceps and triceps, but I hate doing squats!”
Shelly Farrell – Kilkenny
“I don’t mind core. It would probably be my best, I don’t enjoy it but I’m good at it. My least favourite is walk backs, it’s a zuu exercise, and it’s torture!”
Diarmuid O’Keeffe – Wexford
“My favourite is pull-ups and my least favourite is squatting!”
Conor Whelan – Galway
“My favourite, I suppose it would have to be core, maybe the plank! I don’t like pull-ups at all.”
Sarah Carey – Limerick
“At the gym, my favourite exercise would be deadlifts. I don’t really like split squats.”
Anthony Nash – Cork
“My teammates will probably have a go at me, but my favourite would be a bench press. I hate squatting!”
Austin Gleeson – Waterford
“My least favourite part of training is warming up and my favourite part is warming down!”

“I love squatting but I hate doing the plank!”
Shane Dowling – Limerick
“I don’t really have one, but I better say I do! Probably, the bench press. I don’t like doing pull-ups.”

“My favourite would definitely be the squat bar, and the one I dislike the most would be pull-ups.”
Sarah O’Donovan – Dublin
“I am not too sure what my favourite is but I hate lunges – I have appalling balance and two dodgy knees…I’d do core exercises all day long to avoid lunges!”
