We asked hurlers: who is your sporting hero?

Find out who these inter-county hurlers admire right here!

Inter-county hurlers are all people that we can look up to and admire. They play their sport purely because they love it. They could play one of the biggest games of their lives and get up the next day and go to work. It is just the nature of the game!

We wanted to know, who do hurlers look up to? So we asked them, ‘Who is your sporting hero?’

Conor Whelan – Galway

“Eddie Brennan!”

Jason Forde – Tipperary

“I would probably have to say, Brian O’Driscoll. He is the one sportsperson that I would have really looked up to. Eoin Kelly as well would have been another one.”

Aaron Gillane – Limerick

“Barry Foley from Limerick!”

Peter Duggan – Clare

“The person that I would admire most would be Ronaldo just because the way he trained himself to be the best. He wasn’t born with the most natural ability. He just worked hard and that’s how he got to where he is now!”

Austin Gleeson – Waterford

“Michael ‘Brick’ Walsh! He is an out-and-out kind of professional and down to earth kind of guy. He is so humble and would do anything for you, no matter what it is, he is always there for you. His performance on the field is unbelievable. He is 35 this year – we call him Grandad sometimes as a joke. He takes it well!”

Shane Dowling – Limerick

“Tony McCoy because I admire his passion and drive!”

Eoin Murphy – Kilkenny

“Willie O’Connor!

Diarmuid O’Keeffe – Wexford

“Katie Taylor!”
