We’re more used to seeing her glammed up on the red carpet but Michelle Keegan looks very different in character for her latest role.

The first photos of the former Coronation Street actress as Corporal Georgie Lane in BBC’s Our Girl have been released, showing the star in full army fatigues while filming in Kenya.

Keegan is spending two months in the country while filming the role, which sees her play an army medic working among aid organisations in the world’s biggest refugee camp.

“First time I put on the uniform it felt quite surreal but then I immediately felt the sense of duty – as if I was in the military,” she said.

The 28-year-old will take over from Eastenders actress Lacey Turner as the star of the series and previously revealed that preparations for the role had been demanding.

“I have been in Aldershot for four days at an army barracks. This was no picnic! I did dabbing (fast walking) patrolling, drills, some medical training, and combat control.

“By the end (and the beginning) of every day, I was aching in places I never knew could ache. I lost count of the amount of press-ups I have done. If we answered a question wrong or we wasn’t listening properly, we’d have to get down and give 10/20 at a time. I answered a few wrong.”

Keegan’s career has gone from strength to strength since leaving the soap, with her performance in drama Ordinary Lies receiving the thumbs up from the critics.

We’ll definitely be tuning in to this!
