We like to think that we’re pretty careful when it comes to food safety but apparently, we’ve been making a big mistake for most of our lives.
When it comes to packing the fridge, we generally put our milk on the door and stack everything else on the shelves but experts are now saying that this is definitely not the right place!
The door is one of the warmer areas of the fridge so it’s not idea for perishable goods such as dairy and instead should only be used to store goods with a long life such as condiments.
Milk, on the other hand, should be kept on the bottom shelf of the fridge as this is one of the coldest spots and is also ideal for fresh meats.
So, if you’re finding that your milk sometimes goes off before the expiration date, this could be the culprit – especially in good weather!
The middle shelf is said the have the most consistent temperature, while the top shelf is suited to foods that only need to be heated rather than cooked.
