Dublin footballer Noelle Healy is still on a high since the team’s epic All-Ireland win last month, in front of a record-breaking 46,286 people at Croke Park. The ladies brought the Brendan Martin cup back to the capital for the first time since 2010, and have been on cloud nine ever since.
Although normal life for Noelle as an anaesthetist has resumed, the celebrations don’t stop here. The Dublin forward and 11 of her teammates are nominated for 2017 All-Star awards, which are due to take place at the end of November.
On the foot of this glamorous occasion, we sat down with Noelle to chat about how it feels to be nominated, about her own personal style, and what she likes to do in her down time.
Congratulations on your All-Ireland win, how has everything been in the Dublin camp since?
“The mood is great in the team still, there’s been a few school visits that we’ve done, back to our own primary and secondary schools and that’s been really special. The reception and excitement we’ve gotten has been amazing.”
How does it feel to be nominated for an All-Star award?
“It’s a lovely honour to get nominated, delighted to see so many representatives from our team as well! It’ll be great to have another big night out with them all and our families. It’s nice to meet up and see everyone away from the football pitch.”
Do you look forward to getting dressed up for the event, and have you an interest in style yourself?
“Yeah absolutely, I love any opportunity to wear a gown and get my hair and make-up done!
“I would have an interest in fashion. I think at the moment there’s such a variety out there in terms of style and fashion that there’s something for everyone which is great. I think it allows people to be more comfortable in their choices rather than just following what’s on trend.”
What do you like to wear, off the pitch?
“I love a Ted Baker dress, but I would normally dress casually enough day-to-day, skinny jeans, runners or brogues and then a jumper / bomber jacket usually! We wear scrubs in work so not much room for fashion there unfortunately, depending on your opinion of Crocs!”
Do you ever find it hard to marry the two- football and fashion?
“All of the girls very much have their own style and aren’t shy/uncomfortable about it when coming to training or on nights out, which is great! We’d have a pretty eclectic mix of fashion styles and opinions on the Dublin team, so there’s often a discussion on outfits and fashion! We get opinions of dresses/outfits from each other, especially with events like the All-Stars or even weddings that are coming up!”
Who would you consider to have been your toughest opponent in your years of playing?
You lead a pretty hectic lifestyle, what do you do to relax?
“I really like to cook, if I’ve an evening off I love having the time to make a nice dinner. Great to get time to catch up with friends also, can be hard when everyone is so busy with work or off travelling, so it’s lovely when we can all get together. Cinema or listening to music as well.”
The TG4 LGFA All-Star Awards will take place at the Citywest Hotel on the 25th of November, 2017.
