Tell us a little about your makeup career – when did it kick off?

My makeup career is actually still quite new!  I have always loved makeup but when I was going through school and deciding what to do, as crazy as it sounds now, makeup wasn’t a prominent thing at all, let alone a common career path.  It didn’t even cross my mind to become a makeup artist!  I was doing Fine Art in college before I decided to pursue makeup.  I was enrolled to do makeup, stage and screen design in IADT after leaving fine art and decided a week before I was due to start to do a year-long makeup course instead to fast track things.  Then, I got a job in Mac while I was in college and then started in Inglot when I graduated about three years ago now, and that completely changed my life.  It seemed everything fell into place for me once I decided I was doing makeup.  I have worked for myself for about a year and a half now.

What’s your biggest career highlight to date?

My career highlight hopefully has yet to come!  I think having the courage to go out on my own and it be a success has been the highlight so far.  The year with the Inglot pro team was also a highlight, made such great friends and had a blast!

Speaking of highlight, what’s your all-time favourite highlighter?

Becca Champagne Pop, without a doubt!

What do you think will be a massive beauty trend for spring/summer ’18?

I think soft glam, smokey unstructured eye makeup, glowy skin and glossy lips are really in. More like what you would see Emily Ratajkowski rocking on the red carpet.  A lot of my clients are starting to go for a more paired back look too!

What is your ideal spring beauty look?

For me, it’s all about fresh skin, freckles and bronzed glow for spring/summer!  I also love a red-orange bold lip!

Is there anything you’ll miss about winter beauty looks?

There’s not much I’m gonna miss about winter, it’s so hard to wear a full face in winter with harsh winds and rubbing it all onto a scarf.  I do love a good red or berry lip though during the winter.

Do you have a golden rule to live by when you’re applying your makeup?

I would never put foundation on without cleaning my face and applying serum, moisturiser and an illuminating primer.

Beauty 101 with Ruth Bergin on blog.littlewoodsireland.ieFor gals that are all about the glam looks – what’s one tip you can give?

For glam looks it’s all about lashes, highlighter and glossy lips!

What’s your go-to, in a hurry look?

I always throw on a red lip when I’m in a hurry to make myself look more finished, Kat Von D ‘Malice’ is my favourite or Inglot 39.

Finally – what are three beauty products that you just can’t live without?

I can’t live without concealer, highlighter and lipliner/lipsticks and lashes.
