When somebody from our fair green isle makes their mark in Hollywood, we Irish love nothing more than to remind everyone of their Irishness. Chris O’Dowd, Colin Farrell and Olivia Wilde (kinda) are some of Ireland’s favourite darlings at the moment. We even managed to claim US president Barrack Obama as on of our own; remember this ol’ gem?!
Well it turns out there is actually somebody as Irish as Barrack Obama: young Saoirse Ronan from County Carlow. In fact, she’s so Irish that she, like many Irish teens do, studied Colm Toibín’s novel Brooklyn as part of her Leaving Cert.
But unlike all other Irish young ones, she’s now playing the part of Éilis in its new big screen movie adaptation of Brooklyn. To celebrate the film’s release in Irish cinemas later this week, we’re taking a look back on some of Saoirse’s most beautiful party dresses (not to mention her very specific tastes in shoes!)
This Sleeveless Frill Trim Dress from V by Very has a cool neckline detailing just like Saoirse’s dress. Which is perfect if you want to go jewellery-free without looking boring. I love that Saoirse wore the dress with cool metallic brogues (she’s mad for her brogues!) just like these Clarks Hamble Oak Brogue Shoes to add some classic quirkiness (which is a bit of an oxymoron, but she manages it!).
Add on this Studded Wristlet Pouch and this cool Cuff Ponte Blazer from Definitions to dress it up for a night out on the town or even to wear with some black tights into the office. To recreate Saoirse’s sleek ponytail, use a nice styling product like this Fudge Urban 24hr Power Gel.
For a darker look ideal for these winter months, wear this Saoirse-inspired Collared Chiffon Skater Dress by Definitions along with these gorgeous Faux Suede Pointed Court Shoes from the Myleene Klass collection. Give your hair a good de-frizzing with this BaByliss Pro Digital Straightener and accessorise with this Patent Clutch Bag. Wrap up using this cosy but stylish JayLey Cashmere Cape. If you want to create a subtly smokey eye look like Saoirse’s, start with some of our false lashes and add on some Maybelline Master Drama Black Liner. Blend in some of the colours from this Bourjois Smoky Stories Eyeshadow in Over Rose and you’re good to go!
For a glam ‘n’ gold look that’s perfect for the festive season, this Definitions Jacquard Prom Dress is just the ticket! Wear it with these super cute Little Mistress Glitter Ankle Boots Pointed paired with this gorgeous matching Glitter Panel Envelope Clutch Bag.
