We’re vacuum packing away the bikinis and maxi dresses, as spring/summer 2018 is well and truly over. And while we’re settling into our cosy knits and choosing the perfect winter coat that we’re going to live in for the next six months, across the pond in NYC, spring/summer 2019 has been unleashed on the runway.
It seems hard to believe that anyone could be even thinking about bikinis right now, but it’s a stark reminder of exactly how far in advance the world of fashion works. So grab a cup of tea, and settle in to some of our favourite looks from New York Fashion Week, September 2018.
First up, Michael Kors who never fail to impress at Fashion Week. This year, (or rather, next year!), their theme centres around travelling to far flung destinations and exotic locations, with motifs of polka dots, stripes, florals, fringe and laser cut leather. Denim also made a strong appearance, as well as hats, lots and lots of hats.
Next up, is one of our all-time favourite designers, Calvin Klein. Head designer Raf Simon, who’s been at the helm of CK since autumn 2017, took a more theatrical approach to SS19 on the runway this year. Taking inspiration from JAWS and The Graduate, the collection featured, wetsuits, wet hair, tank tops and rubber add-ons as well as graduation caps for good measure.
After five decades in the fashion industry, Ralph Lauren celebrated with a star-studded party including Oprah, Kendall Jenner and a whole host of British celebs. Their approach for spring/summer ’19 focused more on travelling to a ski resort, where sweaters, velvet slip dresses and camel coats were to the fore. We feel like we can totally relate to this kind of fashion right now, and frankly, we want everything from the collection!
