Visiting a Christmas market (or two) is one of our favourite Xmas traditions, and it wouldn’t really feel like the festive season without a mug of hot chocolate, gingerbread and a stroll around the stalls.
While the world renowned markets hail from places like Germany and Austria, our little isle is definitely holding its own in the battle of the best Christmas markets.

Galway’s Christmas market is definitely the best known market in the country. The city will once again see itself transformed into a winter wonderland.
Visit Galway’s Christmas market between November 18 and December 22 – it’s not to be missed!
Waterford Winterval is returning to Waterford again this year and it is more popular than ever. They have free events and ticketed events running throughout the festival, from films to craft days, so there is something to do for all the family.
Visit Waterford between November 25 to December 23.
GLOW invites you to enjoy festive entertainment and cuisine at the festival Food Market on the Grand Parade. You can also soar high above Cork on a 30 metre ferris wheel and enjoy amazing views of the city.
It isn’t on every day though! You can visit between 12 noon to 8.30pm, every weekend (Friday – Sunday) until December 18.
For the last eleven years, Belfast’s City Hall has been transformed into a traditional Germanic Christmas market. It is absolutely jampacked with over 90 hand-crafted wooden stalls.
This year, Belfast’s Christmas market has invited traders from Germany, Spain, France, Italy and, of course, Ireland.
It kicks off on Saturday November 19 and runs up until Thursday December 23.

Designer Dublin Christmas Market
The Designer Christmas Market kicks off this year in the beautiful surroundings of the Bank of Ireland forecourt in College Green from December 9 to 10, from 10am – 5pm. This is a free market with all the stall holders fees going directly to the charity St. Vincent de Paul, so it is definitely worth a visit.
Christmas at CHQ
Don’t miss out on this market from December 8 to 23. It is held in the beautiful grounds of the chq building, from Thursdays through Sundays. You will definitely be able to pick up something in their multitude of stalls, and kids can even write their letters to Santa in a dedicated Santa stall.
Ha’Penny Christmas Market
Every Sunday, The Grand Social hosts the Ha’Penny Market, but this year they have gotten a festive makeover for the Christmas season. Browse their stalls to find some unique trinkets.
