Between black tie work events, posh weddings, and graduations, we’ve all gotten so fancy. And hey, surely this is a sign that the recession is over and we should all be grateful, right? Well, even if you’re not so convinced about that, I’m sure you’ll still find something to celebrate before 2015 is over.
In keeping with the aforementioned fanciness, many people are choosing to make their weddings and and other events “black tie”. That means long evening dresses, up-dos and being on your best behaviour (or at least trying to be!). Notions!
Here are my 5 top tips to see you through a festive formal event:
1. Extravagant materials are a must!
This means luxurious, intricate materials like lace, silk and sequins. While this all sounds very grand, in reality it doesn’t have to completely drain your piggy bank. Depending on your own personal sense of style or mood, either of the following two dress options would work really well at a black tie event: The above Lace Overlay Maxi Dress from V by Very or Tempest One Shoulder Maxi Dress by Forever Unique worn with this Short Beaded Fringe Cape would make a perfect outfit for fancy get-togethers. You can further accessorise either of these great looks with this Tassle Detail Necklace and a pair of gorgeous Carvela Lara Lace Peep Toe Court Shoes.
2. If you’re feeling intimidated, just stick with your favourite colour and jazz it up a little!
Blue is a colour that most of us naturally gravitate towards. It looks great on all skin tones and is a bit of a fashion safety net. So if you’re feeling overwhelmed with the whole “black tie” thing, why not just stick to wearing blue and jazz it up a little? This V by Very Beaded Maxi Dress worn with these COAST Gatsby Earrings and these Carvela Glitter Bow Sandals would be a gorgeous look. Another option is this Little Mistress Navy Embellished Maxi Dress worn with this Faux Fur Stole Coat, this glam Pearl Detail Cuff and these Shoe Box Sawyer Platform Block Heel Sandals.
3. It doesn’t have to be floor-length, it just has to be fabulous (darling)!
If you’re not into the idea of a floor-length gown, don’t worry as there are lots of other beautiful dress options to choose from. I’ve picked out this stylish Lace Cape Mini Dress from Lavish Alice which can be worn with this Spring Detail Necklace Set and a pair of Paper Dolls Mesh Court Shoes. To feel more “put together” on a special night out, check out our great range of false eyelashes, fake tan and lipstick. Then you can add some volume to your hair using these BaByliss Thermo Ceramic Heated Rollers.
4. Accessorise a basic dress!
If you don’t attend formal events regularly, you might be hesitant to splash out on a brand new glitzy little number – after all, cost per wear is a big consideration these days. The good news is that you don’t have to, as you can easily glam-up a simple dress that you can re-wear in the office or for less formal occasions. This Black Myleene Klass Pencil Dress worn with this Lipsy Shimmer Zip Jacket, a glam Chain and Pearl Necklace and these cool Little Mistress Feather Ankle Boots are a good example of how you can wear something simple in an un-simple way.
5. Back in black!
Whether it’s a little black dresses or a long black dresses (the other LBD), black is always the new black, and there’s something about it that just makes everything look so much classier and formal. If in doubt, go for black. This Definitions Embellished Maxi Dress would look stunning paired with this South Chevron Faux Fur Coat, a Pearl Detail Choker And Bangle set and a pair of these Faux Fur Trim Block Heels. Alternatively, you could go for monochrome with this Myleene Klass Pleat Maxi Dress, along with a super-cool V by Very Caped Top, this glam Feather Diamante Detail Necklace and these Glamorous Platform Barely There Sandals.
