The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship this year was an absolute treat. There have been so many highs and lows already, and saw some fantastic displays of hurling.
This year brought about the introduction of the new format to the Hurling Championship, and although a few remain somewhat cynical of it, it has now been widely accepted as a resounding success.

The 5 top scorers
There have been those players that have hit countless points and goals. Here are the current top scorers of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship!
Peter Duggan – Clare
Total scores: 3-76
Being the free-taker can never be an easy role, as it comes with immense pressure. Clare‘s Peter Duggan handles the role like a pro, making him the top scorer of the Championship. He is simply phenomenal and has carried this Clare team through their Championship campaign.
A vital player for the Banner, they will rely on his sharpshooting skills and accuracy. He scored perhaps one of the best points we have ever seen against Galway in the All-Ireland Semi-Final.

Joe Canning – Galway
Total scores: 2-78
Canning was also the second top scorer of the Championship last year behind Waterford’s Pauric Mahony. Widely thought to be one of the best hurlers that the modern game has seen, Canning is a different class.
He is currently the second-highest championship scorer of all time with 26 goals 376 points, a total of 454 points. So need we say more?
T.J Reid – Kilkenny
Total scores: 2-63
Not only is T.J Reid Kilkenny’s free-taker but he is known to inspire his team and drive them forwards should they be lagging behind.
He whacked the equalising point for the Cats in the Leinster Final which forced the game to go onto a replay. He always steps to the plate when he needs to.
Patrick Horgan – Cork
Total scores: 2-53
Patrick Horgan is the go-to player in Cork’s attack and one of the best ball strikers about. He is the all-time top scorer amongst the Cork team.
He was particularly potent this summer for nearly every touch Horgan got, led to a score. A master at work for the Rebels.
Jason Forde – Tipperary
Total scores: 3-39
Jason Forde may not have the chance to add any more points or goals to his current tally of 3-39, he still has certainly made his impact.
Tipperary‘s Munster and All-Ireland dreams were cut short this summer but Forde still stands out as being one of the most skillful and lethal players in the game. With a massive total of 3 goals and 39 points, Forde was sensational this summer for the Premier County
