We’re used to seeing Wexford camogie player Sarah O’Connor dawning the purple and gold of the Yellow Bellies. She’s very comfortable on the pitch, wearing her kit. However, Sarah also has a keen interest in fashion, and style of play is applicable to many aspects of her life.
Despite it being a huge honour getting to wear her county colours, Sarah also enjoys following trends and wearing clothes that she feels good in. It’s been a challenge of hers to even be recognised out of her Wexford gear, but this doesn’t stop her from experimenting with fashion.
Do you find it hard to express your own style when you spend most of your time in training gear?
Yeah it is, especially when people are passing comments that you ‘scrub up well.’ I get that all the time! If I was going to a function or something it’s the first thing people would say.
If you’re heading on a night out what would you like to wear?
Do you follow trends or just wear what you feel comfortable in?
My sister would follow trends, and I always rob her clothes. So, I suppose that’s a yes to trends!
Is being comfortable a factor with your clothes?
If it’s cold out then yes- I have to be warm.
What is the one item in your wardrobe you cannot live without?
My old reliable black jeans!
Are there any Irish celebrities that you take style inspiration from?
I like looking to fashion bloggers, so I would get inspiration from quite a few of them on what I wear.
